Shower Madness/Baby Name

Well our goal last weekend was to get the master bathroom ready so we could have the carpet installed. While I was at work, David was able to remove the toilet from the bathroom and pull out the paneling. When he removed the paneling, he found a small wet spot on the drywall on the shower... so the drywall was not dry. In fact it was so not dry that you could stick your finger right through it. By the time I got home, a small section of the drywall had been removed to reveal... MOLD!!! YAY!!! So the plan was going to be to texture and paint the walls, tile the floor, replace the toilet, and redo the vanity... but now we are also adding redoing the shower to that list.

Anyway, in tearing out the shower, I learned an invaluable lesson regarding rust, nails, and tetanus shots. Somehow I managed to have a rusty nail slide down my arm and puncture my upper arm three times. It didn't bleed a lot. It just gave me three small holes and a really ugly bruise. I decided that I would not chance it and as of Monday morning, I became a proud recipient of a new tetanus shot. It didn't hurt so much until the next day - then my arm was just sore.

We did manage to strip the shower down to the studs. To my surprise, I found nailed to one of the studs - a can of Prince Albert! Must have been left when they built the house. I was hoping to find a can with a bunch of money stashed in it... but we couldn't get the can out, so I guess whoever rips the other wall out can have it.

On Sunday evening, Kayla and I sat down to discuss baby names. We were able to throw out the boy names now and focus on the girl names. Our list of first names was down to two names: Kadence and Kennedi. Kayla liked Kadence, but we were having trouble coming up with a middle name that flowed well with it. After looking at middle names, we came up with Lyn. It flowed well with Kennedi. It was short, and it was close to my middle name. We decided on Kennedi with an I, just for something a little different. Lyn had only one N pretty much for the same reason. We think it is a beautiful name for a beautiful girl! We can't wait for her arrival.

Sugar and Spice...

Well today was the day we found out whether the baby was a boy or a girl. We were afraid that when we got to see the ultrasound, that the baby would cross its legs and not let us see what it was. Fortunately that was not the case. The baby had its rear end up for all to see... which hopefully will be the last time that happens.

We are clearly having a baby girl. That pencil test I posted earlier that my mother-in-law was so sure was 100% correct? That said we were having a boy. We must have used a defective pencil. We were just about sold that we would have a boy, but to be honest - we are thrilled to have a girl... Our bank account will probably take a bigger hit with all the clothes, shoes, purses, prom dresses, weddings... sigh... they grow up too quickly.

See? Here she is holding out her hand asking for more money... or more room... or more food... or something. She might just be pushing back telling the ultrasound tech to quit pushing in so far. Anyway, we are thrilled about this. Now we can start working on names and decorating.

New update

So no more toilet picture at the top of the blog. Sorry for the delay in updating, but I took a sabbatical to go photograph the mighty penguins of Oklahoma. Unfortunately I didn't see any. Not sure why.

Anyway we have been working hard to stay healthy. With the recent outbreak of the swine flu, we thought we better do everything we can to keep from getting this.

Well as you may have seen on the weather channel, or any other news show, we have had quite a bit of snow. First we had about 14 inches of snow on Christmas Eve, then another 6-7 inches of snow around the end of January.

Anyway, I am trying to list all the reasons I have not updated the blog in a while. I guess I may have been procrastinating a little bit. So I decided to make a pie chart about procrastination.

Really, we are just a couple of days away from finding out whether or not we are having a boy or a girl. In thinking about babies, I was trying to figure out some ways to take care of the baby... but not letting it have just a free room and board. Why not use the baby to help around the house? So I would like to find one of these to put on our registry.

I really don't think parenting has to be hard. One of these items may also come in useful.

Don't worry, the only one I would really consider would be the dust mop clothes. You aren't really exploiting the child... just letting it crawl around like it would normally do. In the mean time, it would also be cleaning! Just so no one is worried about how I will take care of a kid, I've been doing my homework on it. I've been studying this chart.

Anyway, I know some of you may not find any of this funny... but
